PROPAGATION
n. f.

Multiplication par voie de génération, de reproduction. La propagation du genre humain. La propagation de l’espèce. On mit dans cette île déserte des animaux dont la propagation fut prodigieuse.

Il s’emploie figurément et signifie Extension, diffusion, progrès, augmentation. La propagation de cette épidémie fut d’une effrayante rapidité. La propagation de la foi. La propagation des connaissances, d’une doctrine. Favoriser la propagation des idées, des découvertes utiles.

En termes de Physique, il désigne la Manière dont la lumière et le son se répandent, et dont certains mouvements naissent les uns des autres. La propagation du son est beaucoup plus lente que celle de la lumière. La propagation des ondes lumineuses, des ondes sonores.
